Pubei Students Need Scholarships

Two Students from Pubei

Pubei had a flood two years ago, so we have tried to help their students.
We are featuring girls this time who all graduated from Pubei High School and need scholarships to college. Students in China have to take a test to get into high school. Now they have done well on their college entrance exams and need help to fulfill their college dreams.

Amanda Liang

My Chinese family name is Liang, and my English name is Amanda. I'm 20 years old. Now I'm graduating from High School and going into my college dream. I grew up in a poor family. My family lives in the Qinzhou area of Guangxi Province.

My home is a small village I come from the countryside, and have lived a saving life from a child. I'm a village girl and love a poor family. I have a happy family. My family members are my old grandmother, father, mother, older brother, older sister and me. My family doesn't have much income. My parents are very old. They cannot go out to make money (in a city). They have to stay at home. My parents plant rice at home every year. The only income for my mother and my father is growing plants. They sell a little rice for my study, which will only afford me to study at school.

My parents both have bad health these last some years. Two years ago, my mother's stomach bled. Her body energy is bad all the time. She only can do some light housework. For a series of reasons, we owe a large number of debts. It's really true that the debts aren't a small amount for our family. My mother was in the hospital. We borrowed some money from others to treat her illness. I was very sad. I hope that my family can be happy.

At home, I help my mother do housework. At school, I 'm a dear and open girl. I like studying. I'm good at table tennis, and I can get on well in my classmates. They said I'm a good student and good friend. They love me.Though my sister goes out to make money, she can't take care of herself well, because she has bad health also. All the money she has made has been spent in curing her disease.

My father has had to take up the duty to support the whole family. He works so hard that he stays in the field nearly a whole day. It's so difficult for him to do it, because of his bad body condition. He has to take the place in order to afford my cost. Seeing my old grandmother and the poor and hard family, I feel very sad.

I have a dream. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I feel that teachers are very great. They teach children knowledge, and make children understand how to be people. I want to go to Guilin to the university. I'm interested in teaching children to be true to their dreams. If I become a teacher, I will feel very happy, and my parents can live a happy life.

If I go to the university, I must study hard in order to let my dream come true. After graduating from college, I want to go to a high school to teach math. I hope that I can come to be a good teacher, and I hope my family will get goodness. I want to be admitted into college! I want to realize my dream! I desire that my family can live a happy life and be far away from poverty and difficulties!

I hope I can get Blessing Hands' college scholarship to make my dreams come true. Once I can get it. I'll study hard in college, in order to light up my family and Blessing Hands. This is my application for a Blessing Hands scholarship for the fall college fee. I intend to major in math. Please consider my application for a scholarship to college.

May Wu

I am a 19 year-old girl from China. My family name is Wu. Our school is the best high school in our county. My dream is to go to the People's University of China, and I intend to major in news and media. I think the announcer is the happiest person in the world, because he or she can be heard and known by almost all the people around the country, even all over the world. Broadcasting is always a challenging job. I have admired announcers since I was a child. I was eager to work like them when I grew up, so I have chosen news and media as my future career.

My home is in a small poor village, and there are 8 people in my home now, because my grandma left us on February 14th, Valentine's Day. I think she must be too lonely, so she went to heaven to meet my grandfather. When she enjoys herself, she will come back.

Our income is very low, and my mother is very weak. My mother is 62, and suffers from many kinds of diseases. She can't do any work. My father is 60. He can only grow rice for our living, so they can't support my further schooling. My brother and his wife work in the fields all the day in order to support his three children in high school. We live with him and his wife. I know he also lives a hard life, but I can do nothing to help him, since I'm only a student now.

I need more knowledge to strengthen my wings, so that I can help more people who need help. I want to go to college, so I study hard. I think that I can score well in the coming college entrance examination. That is very important to me, because my dream is to go out of my small village and go to a university for further study.

Nowadays, the competition is very fierce in China. Without real ability and knowledge, few people can get a good job, and no one can be successful, especially a village girl without any important background. I know there are many difficulties before me, but they can never defeat me. I believe my dreams will come true soon. I need more knowledge to enrich myself and adjust to society. So I am applying for Blessing Hands' help, so that I can finish my university study.
Best wishes!
Yours,
May Wu

Blessing Hands Introduces Sunday Liu

Sunday needs a scholarship to college

There is a movie of Sunday you can view below.

My family name is Liu. My English name is Sunday. I feel very lucky that you can help me. I feel grateful for your help and support very much. Now I will become an university student, but my family is poor.

I come from a small village. There are five people in my family. They are my mother, my two sisters and my brother. My brother is studying in a university. My elder sister has been ill for several years. My father passed away three years ago, and my mother is old. My poor family has few fields. It is impossible for my mother to make enough money for the expense of my college and support the whole family. I don't have enough money to help myself to finish my college, and by myself, I could not afford the tuition. I am so urged to catch the chance to have further teaching. So I am applying for the Blessing Hands scholarship to complete my college degree. It can help my dream come true. If my application passes, I will do my best to create my future.

I have been a member of Blessing Hands for two years. I am so thankful that I can become one of the Blessing Hands students. With the help of Blessing Hands, I can smoothly finish my studies. I appreciate Blessing Hands so much. I have a strong feeling toward their love, which can travel through countries and regions. I will always remember the Blessing Hands' spirit, and try my best to help others. It is true that the process of spreading love is more happiness than acceptance of love.

Although I am from a poor family and helping others with money is beyond my power, I will always try my best to help others in as many other ways as possible. I believe that someday I can do more to help others. Helping others is a long journey; I will take the journey all my life. I will also continue to spread warm love and with my benevolence pass our Blessing Hands ideals on to others. Let each person be immersed in the ocean which loves the world. Thank you Blessing Hands!

Yours,
Liu (Sunday)

Roland Ruan's Essay

Roland Needs a Scholarship to College

I want to apply for a Blessing Hands scholarship. The following is something about me. I'm from a middle school of Qinzhou, Guangxi, China. I'm Ruan. Roland is my English name. In 11.1986, I was born in a village of Guangxi, China. It is a remote village, but very beautiful. I lived through a happy and unforgettable childhood. There, I made friends with many other children. We became young fellows together.

By my teacher, I have come to understand that Blessing Hands is a charity whose goal is to relay love. I have been a Blessing Hands student for one year and have been provided financial aid. Your help was greatly appreciated.

I'll become a university student soon. I'll take accounting as my major. I chose it because I like it. On the other hand, though maybe I cannot help the people who need help in a direct way, I think I can use my major for others in an indirect ways. All the hard work is for something. I do want to be an accountant. So I really want to enter one college which is teaching accounting.

Sometimes I even want to become a volunteer of Blessing Hands, hoping to help someone who is in need of help. I know all of this should be done after I am a true student of the university.

I'm so excited now, but the tuition is a big problem to my family. Because there will be two of my family members to be university students. My family's estimated monthly income in renminbi is 800 Yuan ($43.73), and all of this just comes from my mother. Now I really need help, so I am applying for a Blessing Hands scholarship. If I'm provided with one, I'll study hard. No matter how, I'll try my best to relay our love forever.

Great News!

Liang, who was featured in our last letter, has been picked by two sponsors. One is a Taiwanese student who wrote, " I know that this amount is not enough for student Liang's college tuition. Still I hope my reaction can encourage some others, because I am a student too."

The other sponsor is a teacher who values a promising student. They will share Liang's support.Li Lin from Yangshuo has also been picked from our photo web link for a full scholarship.

Three other students were picked this spring during our pick me campaign, and another student's long time sponsors will send her to college. We still have plenty of students hoping for scholarships. We will be featuring their scholarship essays one at a time from the photo web site. Go pick out a student. http://picasaweb.google.com/zhufuzhishou/CollegeScholarshipStudents

We hope you will sponsor one of them for $500 a year or share in a sponsorship for any amount. Challenge others to give like Liang's sponsor did. Perhaps your church, sorority, or service club can join together to support a scholarship. We are only asking for the first year's scholarship, although you can continue to support your student as long as you want. Research shows that if Chinese students can successfully complete the first year of college, funding and loans are much easier for them to get.

China Trip

I will be going to China on September 23rd for 17 days to personally visit our programs in Yangshuo and Qinzhou. Sometimes people wonder if the support gets to the students. I try to meet each student personally and set a standard of integrity for Blessing Hands. I feel good that we are teaching them to be Blessing Hands and setting an example of charity and volunteerism.

We will have two gatherings of students where we will take photos, enjoy a program, give out tuitions publicly, and gather pen pal and thank you letters.I also plan to take some movie footage this time to make into a movie about Blessing Hands. You may see more of us on youtube. I always travel at my own expense, and my translators are volunteers. We have great friends and support in China. Missy Peace from Pennsylvania will travel with me this time.

Yard Sale was a Success

Our last yard sale brought in $730. That is more than one college scholarship. In November, we are planning a silent auction fundraiser in Lexington, KY in cooperation with the Kentucky Chinese American Association. If you have items you will donate for our auction please

Phyllis Nickel and Pam Cooper helping with the yard sale.
We were all so hot in the August sun. Our many volunteers will never forget this sale. The Kentucky Chinese American Association donated many camping items that sold very well. Two university student volunteers, Johnathan Thornsberry and his friend Samantha Crist, stayed with us to the hot end. Carol Rose and many others like Ann Colbert, David Cutts, Carolyn Franzini, and Linda Barker pitched in to help. We could not have done it without them. We also thank Noah's Ark Day Care and Adkinson's Florist for their parking lot with a big shade tree.

Liang's Scholarship Essay

Liang Needs a Scholarship to College

Liang's school picture and essay are featured in his own video below. Play the movie to enjoy his story. Thanks goes to Morehead State University student Johnathan Thornsberry for his production of this one minute picture collage.

Liang Needs
College Tuition Help

My name is Liang. I'm at the age of 18. I was born in a beautiful town in Yangshuo County. I was born in a poor family. My parents always worried about my school tuition. However, the ability of earning money is limited, so they have to borrow some money from a relative.
I have a strong will to do the things that I want to do. I'm interested in studying. To be a person who does nothing is not what I want. I would occupy myself in studying or working. I cannot stand eating without doing something. If I have free time, I will make the most use of it, such as spending it in reading or repairing something that is bad.

Besides badminton, table tennis is my favorite sport. Even though I'm not good at them, I still enjoy the fun of playing them. I believe that a good body is the base of hard working.

When it comes to my dreams, I always said I wanted to be a scientist. I have a special love of physics. I think I will take up physics classes, and I want to make some contribution to society. With the college entrance test ended, I can say I have graduated from Yangshuo Senior High School. In school, I was awarded prizes every year for my hard studying.

Thank you for giving me partial senior school aid. As I have graduated, I'm going to college. However, when it comes to the college tuition expenses, it is a great difficulty to me. The college tuition expense is beyond my family's ability.
There are two people studying in school, my little sister and I. My little sister is one year younger than me, and she is going to be a senior three student, which means spending a great deal of money.
What is worse, my family can't afford anymore for there are few incomes in our family. Besides, my father has a disease. As money is lacking, it cannot be cured. In a word, my family is short of money.

So I have to apply to Blessing Hands for partial college aid. I promise if I get the money, I will only spend it on my college tuition.
Thank you again. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Liang
