Orphan Girls Need Sponsors

Two Orphan Girls in Myanmar
SPONSOR THEM

Nokhei (Esther) and her older sister Ngohniso are orphans in Yangon in Myanmar. Their mother died of cancer soon after Esther was born, and their father died two months later of cancer also.

They have been living with the older brother of their mother and their grandmother, Nei Si, but the uncle already has two children of his own. It is hard for so many people in one place. They are visiting around with friends who will take them for a week. The grandmother is willing to live in a separate home with the girls, but she cannot afford that. Nei Si needs sponsors to help with the day-to-day expenses of the girls. The girls are 9 and 6 years old.

They live in Yangoo where $40 a month would rent a house for the three, $35 would cover food for both girls and their grandmother monthly, and $25 a month would be sufficient for clothes and other items needed for their daily needs. That comes to $70 a month for each girl or $600 a year for each girl to live with their grandmother. We inquired about getting them into the care of a foster home, but there are so many covid orphans that there are no spaces there. It is better for them to be with family anyway.

Their grandmother Nei Si wants to take care of them but can't afford it on her own.
MYANMAR HAS MANY NEEDS
The teachers and medical personnel in Myanmar are on strike against the new military coup. During the Covid-19 epidemic there is no medical care easily available. The schools are closed because of covid and the strikes. Inflation has hit the country hard.

What chance do these two girls have without help?

Will you sponsor one or both? Message us to sponsor them.

Myanmar is Suffering

      Whole family groups are displaced.

Mindat people have hidden in the jungle.

This request for help recently came from David Moe from Khinphong Village in Myanmar's Chin State.

"Since May 13, 2021, my hometown has been placed under martial law due to the local civilians' resistance to the military armies with homemade hunting guns, "tumee" in Burmese. Since then, about 90% of the residents, including my parents, have left Mindat town for the jungles and villages to seek safety.

The military army entered people’s houses and stole their private property. In my parents’ house, they left some bullets. My parents and other civilians are scared of the military army, so they have chosen to live in the jungle and villages as refugees.

They desperately need financial aid for their daily food, clothes, shelter, and medical care. Now the third wave of COVID-19 is so bad that life is even harder.

Hidden from the military in the jungle

Blessing Hands has sent $4,250 to our administrators in Mindat and Matupi for these displaced families. They need much more. Because we are a nonprofit, Facebook allows us to receive donations without any fee being required.

Mindat Refugees fleeing to the mountains

Blessing Hands has been helping the Chin State villages in two areas of Myanmar for over two years. Now that Covid-19 restrictions and teacher strikes have stopped the schools, we are turning our efforts from education to helping the displaced people of Mindat and Matupi who are fleeing from martial law and the soldiers of the coup.

Please give so they can be safe.

Rainy Season Escape from Mindat City

"Many refugees in my village live in fear and need our prayers and financial assistance. I am requesting financial help for them. About 500 people live in our village as refugees. Any amount of financial aid you would graciously offer would be deeply appreciated. " David Moe

Site Visits in Guangxi Province

Our staff in China has been visiting Guangxi Program sites. It was exciting to get new pictures and videos to send sponsors and see how the students have grown. Tim Liao, our assistant director in China, is the author of these reports.
Wuxuan County Love Association Partnership
There are 45 students sponsored by Blessing Hands in Wuxuan County. Among them are 9 primary school students, 22 junior middle school students, and 14 senior high school students. Our visiting schedule in Wuxuan was two days from the 3rd to the 4th of June.

In Wuxuan, our students’ sponsorships are managed and distributed by the Wuxuan County Love Association, a local charity that partners with Blessing Hands. We distributed sponsorship while visiting the students and families. Wuxuan Love Association already had made a detailed schedule for two days of visiting activities.

Because Blessing Hands is an overseas organization, the local security department of Wuxuan County had arranged for two policemen to follow us during these two days of visiting.

Due to the large and dispersed number of students, we started at 8 am and ended at 9:30 pm on the first day. Although the visits on the second day were in distant towns and villages, the number of students was much less than the first day.

We had a chance to meet the students' parents and relatives. We were comforted by the happy smiles of the students and the tears of the parents. Although the government welfare program has covered a lot for poor families and there are exemption policies for poor students, there are still many students who face too many difficulties due to family difficulties. Blessing Hands is opening a door for them.

Although the visit was highly monitored, the Wuxuan Love Association has a great influence in Wuxuan County, so every school seriously and kindly received us.
Longfu Township, Du An County

After two hours of difficult and dangerous mountain roads, we arrived at Longfu Town. Our volunteer, Doctor Dai from Longfu Health Center, was waiting for us. He helps us give footwear and school supplies to three Yao minority primary schools. Blessing Hands supports 5 students in Longfu, but we could only meet with Wei Senbao and Wei Sencai this time. They are both studying at Longfu Middle School which is right next door to the health center. Both of them have grown much taller now.

Now the local government has a good policy in rural areas for students graduating from junior middle schools. They just need to sign a contract with the local medical department to return to their hometown to work after graduation, and the government will sponsor them to vocational medical schools. One of our students, Zhenyang is taking advantage of this program. Huang Zhenyang and Huang Zhenyuan, are brothers. Their parents are both blind. Zhenyang is studying in a vocational medical school in Nanning to be a medical technician. He will be a senior 3 student in the fall. His brother, Zhenyuan, is studying in No. 3 High School in Du An. He will graduate this year and was taking the college entrance test.
Daxu School in Guilin County

Blessing Hands sponsors 17 students in Daxu. Among them are 3 senior middle school students and 14 junior middle school students. One of the senior 3 students took the college entrance examination a few days later.

Our volunteer, Teacher Zhao, had already gathered the 17 students in advance for us. Some of them had met Betty Cutts before. We were very happy to introduce ourselves and get to know each other. We passed Blessing Hands’ greetings and encouragement to each student, and they also expressed their gratitude and submitted their thanks letters to us. We were so touched by their gratitude, some of them said they longed to see Grandma Betty again in the future.

Teacher Zhao arranged for us to have lunch together in the teachers’ reception room, he worried that the school canteen food was not delicious enough, so he specially ordered two tables of food from an outside restaurant and let them bring it to school. During our lunchtime meeting, Alvin Luk and I took pictures with them.

Senior students will need college scholarships of $650 a year. If you want to sponsor one, contact us.
Du An Special Education School

We sponsor 28 students at the Du An Special Education School. Mr. Lu Zhengliang, director of the teaching department of the school and our volunteer there, received us very formally. He guided us to see the school equipment and the conditions of the school.

Mr. Lu told us that computer and English courses are very helpful to students. The students have made a lot of progress not only in computer skills but also in English. The students' English level seems better than most teachers. This distance learning is sponsored by Blessing Hands.

Mr. Lu also arranged for us to meet with the leaders of various departments of the school in the conference room.

At the conference meeting, they specifically mentioned the school's van usage. They said before it was hard for them to provide teaching resources for the long-distance students, who are not able to come to school because of physical problems, but now door-to-door service is convenient. Even those students in remote rural areas are able to arrange for teachers to visit them. Teachers go to the countryside almost every working day now. The school said the van we gave them last year is very useful.

Mr. Lu arranged for us to take pictures with students. We bought some candies as a meeting gift for them.
Yangshuo Site Visit

Malan Cai, Tim Liao, and Alvin Luk recently.visited schools in Yangshuo where Blessing Hands began in 2005. Malan Cai has been our volunteer all these years and serves on our board presently.

We were delighted to get to visit 12 schools where we have sponsored students in Yangshuo. At Honglian School, Principal Zhang Gongwen met us. She was one of our first sponsored students in 2005, and now helps us help other students in her school. It is so rewarding to see our alumni become blessing hands to others. (She is in the yellow dress in the photo.)

Two sisters came to school wearing beautiful dresses, Principal Zhang said it was because their Grandma knew they were going to see us.

Professor Cai gave a greeting gift to each of the 32 students and recorded their thank you videos. Since the Yangshuo Education Bureau is the management department of each school and we were accompanied by Director Li and Teacher Huang, the school principals and the directors in charge of student sponsorships received us very warmly.

One principal was very enthusiastic and recognized Alvin Luk and professor Cai as soon as we met. He said he had met Alvin and Betty many years ago, and he knew a lot about Blessing Hands. He said Blessing Hands has had a profound impact on Yangshuo.

Blessing Hands Students Graduate from Universities
I graduated from Hainan University. In September, I will go to the Jiangsu Normal University for a master's degree. During these years, you gave me the biggest help, I am so lucky to have you accompany me to grow. I still remembered I had the. scholarship interview four years ago. However, my oral English was too poor at that time. There must be a translator to help me then. I am still practicing speaking English and hoping to talk to you directly someday. I am always grateful for you.
Yours sincerely,
Lancy
