We have received a gift of $1,227 that will almost cover the food fund for the coming semester. Now we lack only $578 more to cover all the kids' food needs. $35 will cover one student.
For the price of a burger ($2.75) a Chinese student can eat three meals for a week. Chinese rural students above the 6th grade usually live too far from home to go home at night, so they stay at their schools for the week. They wash their clothes every night and wear their other change of clothes while the first set dries. They are not charged for their rooms, but they must pay for all their school meals, usually rice or noodles with vegetables.
Our middle school students live in rural areas near Yangshuo in China's Guangxi Province. For $35 a semester you can help them with food expenses.
